Here at Parkside, we believe that the Word of God is alive and active. However, you need to read it in order for it to change your life. We value devotional times with the Lord because we know that we all need to be spiritually fed more than once a week. Imagine if we only ate food once a week...we would be weak and have severe malnutrition. The same is true about your spiritual walk with the Lord. We know that we all need to be in the Word more and spend that quiet time with Jesus. So, devotions at Parkside are the talk of the church. We have a Bible reading plan that takes the church through the entire Bible in a year. There are links below. We all read the same plan so that we all have something to talk about, other than the work week. We have found that a simple acronym helps us hear and then live out what the Lord is telling us through His Word.
So to get started: You will need a Bible, a journal or piece of paper, and a pen or pencil. Then, just click on the daily link below and follow the SOAP acronym. That's it! You are on your way to life transformation by the renewing of your mind already.
S: SCRIPTURE
Look up today's reading in your Bible or click on the link above. Take time reading and allow God to speak to you. When you're done, look for a verse that particularly spoke to you and write it in your journal.
O: OBSERVATION
What do you think God is saying to you in this scripture? Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you. Paraphrase and write this scripture down in your own words, in your journal.
A: APPLICATION
Personalize what you have read by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now. Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, revelation of a new promise, or corrections for a particular area of your life. Write how this scripture can apply to you today.
P: PRAYER
This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this scripture, or it may be a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say! Now, write it out.
